Berets Blank Vudoos

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

The second placed Green Brook Berets have been on a tear, taking 16/18 points in their last six games. This run has enabled them to keep the pace with the first placed Pterodactyls, of whom they trail by three points, although the Berets will have two more games played after their skate with the Vudoos.

The Vudoos were ten points behind the Berets for second place and on a three game losing streak. A regulation win here would get the Vudoos seven behind Green Brook, while opening up a bit of space, five points ahead of Ooff!.

Nuno Costa has been playing exemplary for the Berets lately, recording a shutout in his previous game, and just one goal allowed in each of the two before that. Due to this form, Costa is now atop the Buffalo Wild Wings Man of the Match Standings, but he would have to keep up his play if he wanted to stay there.

Mark Schwanda had an opportunity to put the Vudoos ahead, but Costa met him with his paddle and it would remain scoreless. Costa's play has backboned the Berets this season, but they have also been superb on offense, demonstrated when Joe Patrick would score the only goal of the first period.

The second period would be where Green Brook really distanced themselves from the Vudoos, starting with Keith "The Fireball" Fimiani from Christian Solis, but it would take a while for the Berets to get comfortable. As Costa was perfect in the crease, the Berets were unable to extend their advantage due to the play of Colin Burt, filling in for the Vudoos, as he was huge against Joe DeLorenzo, who had his slapper engulfed by Burt's chest. But the Berets' pressure would be too much for the Vudoos, and they would eventually go up 4-0 when Captain Nep Ulloa scored from Christian Solis, then when Ulloa returned the favor on a Solis goal.

The Berets went into the third period ahead 4-0, and would slowly tick away the time on the clock with some smart plays. The two late Berets goals (Andrew Bzdula from DeLorenzo and Jon "Das" Boot, and Patrick from Bzdula) were formalities in what was a comprehensive 6-0 win in which Nuno Costa (shutout) and Christian Solis (1G, 2A) won the Buffalo Wild Wings Man of the Match Award.
